Mock Coronations: Less than $40 Million
by
larzini
on Fri 28 Jan 2005 09:31 AM EST
The president talks about winning the election as if it were a landslide. "The American people have spoken." He does realize that a large number of people did not vote for him. Doesn't he? Pharmaceutical companies release drugs that are effective 45% of the time, when the control group shows 35% effective. And they consider this a breakthrough, as well.
If I'm to follow Bush's math or the corporate drug world's equations, then when my son brings home an algebra test someday with a score of 53, I should adamantly opposed to the school system's view of this as a failing grade. If my son's score is above 50, it's a mandate from God that he is a genius, and should be awarded the finest meats and cheeses available, along with a college scholarship to pursue astrophysics or whatever else he wants to choose, since he's clearly fucking brilliant and the un-American grading system is denying his potential for divine greatness. Is it possible the school system doesn't love freedom, and hates my son because he loves freedom?
I like hearing about mock coronations, especially when they use Shepard Fairey influenced artwork. Hence, the links to The Artist Glazunov's Laughitov.

Hey Man, Nice Party. Where's my Vehicle Armor?
by
larzini
on Thu 27 Jan 2005 06:30 PM EST
This was too good not to link to. And it would be wonderful if someday, my last 2 out of 3 posts don't reference the Accordion Guy's blog.
Judy Bachrach makes a great point, and drives it home. And Brigitte Quinn just makes it worse by trying to go toe-to-toe with her. She's severely out matched. She asks Judy how she would plan the party. Brilliant retort, Dumbass. Judy Bachrach could have said anything from "Get those little hot dog Oer d'oevres" (I seriously doubt that's spelled correctly) to "I wouldn't spend $40 million dollars" to "doy doy doy--how would you plan the party---doy doy doy", and still make Brigitte Quinn look like an idiot.
Last time I checked, part of the Bush "base" were a group of people that called themselves "conservatives". I can't see how anybody could argue for the lavish spending on inaugural parties. Even the guys who want to turn Iraq into a parking lot can see that.
Ms. Quinn would have done just as well to let Judy Bachrach make her point and move forward, but I'm glad she didn't.

Ninjai: Chapter 11

No they're not filing for bankruptcy, although they do claim they're broke.
Now that Chapter 11 is up, it's probably a good time to catch up on the rest.
And just because he's acute little ninja, don't think he's for the Caillou crowd. Which reminds me of a scene overheard at a local Gamestop the other day.
A mother is in there asking the sales clerk about the price she saw on line for GTA: Vice City. He tells her that's an online only price, but that she could get a copy for $19.99. So she calls over to her child who wants the game, who is about 6 years old. So the clerk tells her, you know this game isn't really for kids, and runs off the list of vices in the game for her, mature content, violence, drug use, strong sexual relations, offensive language, that kind of stuff. The mother was a little taken aback, and then told her kid, that perhaps they should pick something else.
I'm glad the clerk informed the mom of this upon recognizing who it was for, yet I'm a little surprised that a title like Vice City didn't start her mom-dar senses tingling. I might find this exchange more interesting than it appears out of context, the Hollywood version would have the mom get upset at the clerk questioning her, accusing him of trying to tell her how the raise the children, and buying the game anyway. But this is New Jersey, not Hollywood, real thing happen here, sometimes bizarre, sometimes inconsequential yet real.
Ok...you're finished reading. Go away.

on Tue 25 Jan 2005 04:46 AM EST
Great find by the Accordion Guy. I am amazed and happy that such a video exists, I can only imagine what was going through the head of new Wendy's employees when they watched this video. Who is this mystery MC? I guess his rhymes are on the positive tip, nothing about guns, drugs, bitches. Just burgers, and grill etiquette. Recommended for those who enjoyed Lamar's rhymes in Revenge of the Nerds. And infinitely better than Carl Lewis' ill-advised music video.
You know, I can deal with Olympic athletes drunk driving, taking performance enhancing drugs, that kind of thing. But seeing a champion like Carl Lewis denigrate himself in a low budget piece of 80's cheese, the Olympic committee should strip him of his medals for the make-up and haircut alone. I watch the video waiting for the scene where Grace Jones comes along and kicks the living shit out of him. This video makes Starship look like Parliament-Funkadelic. What's next Bruce Jenner doing Tampax commercials? Michael Phelps for Epilady. Well, the latter is probably not too far a stretch.
The footage of Carl Lewis in Atomic Twister is a bit more respectable. Although I'm half expecting it to turn into a Nike commercial with Carl outrunning the tornado with just enough time to warn the sheriff and began evacuating the townsfolk.

on Fri 14 Jan 2005 02:03 AM EST
From now on I should just go straight to edisoncarter's site. He's got a cheat for the GameShark that raises the water lever throughout the streets of San Andreas.
And of course, there's a movie. (The link should work here, it needed to be edited on ed's site.)
Read further down on his site for info on spawning boats, a must for the newly created canals on the GTA landscape.
He's also remarked about a potential cheat for Mother Nature taking back the streets to give the appearance of an overgrown post-nuclear world. This would work well coupled with the cheat that eliminates the car traffic and causes all pedestrians to attack you. Kind of a 28 Days Later motif. It would be even better if there was a cheat just to spawn those zombie looking guys in Palomino Creek.
Someone should start talking to the guys who made the GTA Leatherface movie about this.

And perhaps it will Stop Hurting America so much. Tucker Carlson is off Crossfire. How many days until the we hear he's joined Fox News. Or has it happened already? Ask Carlson yourself.
If Fox was "fair and balanced", as they tell us already, wouldn't the addition of Zell Miller, mean they can't say that anymore, add Carlson and forget about it. If their definition of "balanced" meant leaning way to the right and sucking up to the GOP, these additions would even unbalance the false balance they claim. What?
If there ever were Richard Gere type rumours of gerbils removed from George W. Bush's colon, is it possible that the emergency room X-Rays (de-classified 30 years from now) would reveal an embedded Fox journalist? Gerbils...Journalists...Karl Rove could spin his way out regardless.

I live in New Jersey and I'm a San Diego Chargers fan. I never lived in San Diego, so there's really no reason for me to like the Chargers, a perennial struggling franchise that is never on national television, and even less so in the New York market where I'm subjected to the Giants and Jets year after year. I'm not sure the pain of another Charger defeat is worse than the pain of New York teams being the only televised football, when both have awful seasons.
But obviously that hasn't been the case this year since the Jets just beat the Chargers in the first round of the NFL playoffs. And in case you're wondering, I am aware of the ability to get a satellite to watch these games, but I am probably too cheap, and would be more likely to head to a bar to watch them.
And when they signed Marty Schottenheimer as coach, I wasn't sure I wanted to watch all those games. Now I know it's way too easy to jump on a guy who just lost in the playoffs and call for his head on a plate. Well, then again, it isn't so easy when the coach has amounted to a 12-4 record after a 4-12 season. But I'll do it anyway.
Many people who have satellite television with the NFL Season Ticket package may still be unaware of the Chargers team and their coach. A 12-4 record is hard to argue with. But if you don't watch those games, the 12-4 record is all you see. You don't see the series of plays called by the coach.
Hence, my problem with Marty.
Marty for years has played something called "MartyBall". You can throw a hyphen in there or just make the "b" lowercase, but it still doesn't change a conservative system that makes George W. Bush look like he's running the "run and shoot" offense. Wow, bad example, or just a bad, yet unintended pun.
Anyway, Marty must be getting somewhat better, since Drew Brees number of pass attempts is larger than his shoe size, or more fairly has put up good numbers this year. But some of this could be the result of a highly conservative team consistently being behind in games, and being forced to throw the ball, with the good fortune of having personnel that are able to respond to this challenge. But the offense in San Diego does have more balance than Marty's Kansas City teams. But the still often conservative, or if not just plain unimaginative playcalls at times left San Diego tonight down 10 points in the 4th quarter with no choice but to go to the air.
It's the situational playcalling that kills me. When the Chargers were driving for that touchdown to tie the game in the 4th quarter, there were passes to Gates and Parker that opened up the field. Sure LaDanian Tomlinson was there, but his effectiveness was based more on balance than dominance. The Jets know he's good, and they know keeping him from successfully running the ball down after down increases their chances of winning. They also know Schottenheimer would love to call his number every down.
But once the Chargers reached the 10-yard line, Martyball re-appeared, in what would be a great time to be using Tomlinson as a decoy, they run the ball up the middle. On third and goal, they do this again, they did nothing to draw the defenders out wide, nothing to show a different look, In fact they even put a receiver in motion to the middle of the field to bring another defender closer to the ball. That doesn't work playing Madden Football on a Playstation 2 and it certainly didn't work tonight. No first down, and the only thing that gave the Chargers a second chance was a dumb roughing the pass penalty on the Jets.
Then Marty grants Drew Brees the opportunity throw again to Antonio Gates, and the games is tied and we move on to overtime.
Chargers get the ball, 3 and out, punt, stop the Jets convincingly and get the ball again. They begin a nice drive with some balanced plays, getting the balls in the hands of mostly Tomlinson and Gates, with mostly pass plays, but a few runs to keep the defense honest.
Then they get to around the Jets' 35 or 30 yard line, and Martyball returns in its ugliest form. There is no need to run out clock since it is sudden death overtime, so there is plenty of time to get to the end zone. On three successive downs, the Chargers run those running plays that never have any chance of working. You can just see the formation, its the run the balll into your own line, but don't have them make any holes, or pull, or do stunts, or anything that might actually help your running back move the ball down the field. That formation. The one where the blocking back's job is to run into the line and clog up the only opening that might be there. They run the kind of run plays where you just use up clock not wanting to turnover the ball, so you can get your punter on the field.
Add to this a rookie field goal kicker in his first playoff game looking at a 40+ yard field goal which is never a gimme, on a wet field. When you have a team that's driving like a locomotive down the field, throw some more coal in the fire, don't pour water on it. Even Madden suggested taking one shot at the end zone. Throw high percentage passes off play fakes, but don't stop your team who's been consistently driving down the field since the end of regulation, against an exhausted New York Jet defense, from winning the game.
I watched in the Eighties' the playoff game where Marty went conservative to give Dan Marino and the Dolphins a chance to knock him out of the playoffs. I've seen some of the Kansas City losses during his tenure as well. I can't argue with his Won/Loss records in the regular season, or that he must prepare and coach players into winning form. But I also don't see the players themselves being the ones who lose these games, they are not the ones calling the shots. A simple run play that commonly gains about 3 yards, will probably still gain 3 yeards if its well executed.
This also reminds me of Jim Mora, who would get teams into playoff contention, only to lose the playoff games because of conservative playcalling and prevent defense.
This is the part where I realize this post may be getting tiresome, and I'm certainly sick of it right now, because I'm sick of thinking about losing to the Jets tonight. So, no links because I'm tired, we'll end this here.

M.I.A. / Diplo - Piracy Funds Terrorism, Vol. 1
by
larzini
on Sat 08 Jan 2005 01:02 AM EST
Now, I know people don't come here for the latest and greatest. There's too much going on away from the computer for me to even think I could cover that. So I know this is not the first time the majority of you reading about the M.I.A./Diplo mix tape (CD), whichever. So at last count, 4 out of 5 of you have heard of this record. Good.
I've heard a few tracks, and they lived up to the hype, so I was hoping to fund something besides terrorism and purchase this CD rather than go downloading the tracks. But this album had a limited release, so I e-mailed Diplo (one and the same) over at Hollertronix, and asked about a re-release to benefit tsunami victims in Sri Lanka. (If you've read even 10% of the hype, you would've known that's M.I.A.'s homeland.)
Diplo responded positively, so it looks like something is in the works. We'll have to wait and see what develops. Maybe a re-release, maybe Vol. 2, who knows. I'd like to get a copy of the record, and make another contribution to the relief efforts.
M.I.A.'s full-length album is expected out this year, don't ask me when.

San Andreas/Liberty City Underground Jetpack Maps and More

Maybe I will look into this stuff after all. From what I'm reading it seems that there are a number of interiors you can reach with the jetpack that you can reach no other way. Including Liberty City! It looks like credit for the find is going to Edison Carter, who is kind enough to divulge his secrets. It seems that these interior environments were created for cutscenes in the game. You may need Action Replay or Gameshark to reach some areas.
Edison Carter also discovered some brand new cheats. Cars Fly. All Traffic is Fast (Sports) Cars. Full Weapon Aiming While Driving. Nice job.

Yes, I actually posted a graphic, it's nothing really, since I didn't create it, but I thought I'd break up the usual monotony of my blatherings, with some pixel candy. Actually, it's more like the mints you get when you leave the diner.
But anyone who's been following the San Andreas world has heard about the "underground". Apparently you can take a jetpack and fly around underneath the map of San Andreas. Looking at this movie from GTA Domain, I don't know if underground is the proper term. It's more of a bluescreen netherworld, perhaps, or the Matrix before the Architect really rolled up his sleeves and went to work.
They have other movies, too. Like the Hidden Tattoo Shop, although it looks like you have to die to get back in the games. But if you are a fan of cannibis leaf ink jobs, then it might be worth it.
I don't know if I'll bother checking it out on my own. But I feel better knowing it's there. Like turning the television on to make it feel like your not the only one home. Or maybe not like that all.
I'm too busy trying to get past the first Jizzy mission, I wish you didn't have to run those little errands every time before getting a chance to take out the limo and SUV.
I'm done typing this post now, you can stop reading if you want. I'll probably spend the next 15 minutes getting the links just right.

Favorite-est Bogus Interview Ever
by
larzini
on Tue 04 Jan 2005 01:30 AM EST
It's a shame that the interview with former Nintendo chairman, Hiroshi Yamauchi ain't the real deal. The Ballmer altercation is classic.
I suppose the dead giveaway should have been the interviewer's name, Jack Gleason, born in Brooklyn, New York. Get it.
The original link contained an graphic image of the interview, Minh's Blogs posted a transcription, complete with relative images.
Warren Ellis had the interview on his site earlier. Although he deleted the link, rather than follow it up. Anyway, the diepunyhumans content is now at warrenellis.com. Perhaps the name didn't sit right after the carnage left by the tsunami. An unfortunate name at an unfortunate time. Although Warren doesn't seem the reactionary type, so it may just be coincidence.
If you don't know Warren Ellis, read Transmetropolitan, then read one of the other million things he's written. He's quite good. And visit his blog, the stuff he links to when he's not writing is good, too.
I am apparently not that good a writer, since good is not such a good description of good. But I may good, since good is a brief, succint way of defining good. errr...spellcheck succint for me, wouldya? Right, it's succinct, I knew something looked not so...good.
